Keep the deficit modest
Large abrupt cuts make training and protein intake harder. Start by reducing the least filling calories and monitoring a two-to-four-week weight trend.
Protect training quality
Keep two or three resistance sessions and maintain challenging sets. You may progress more slowly during a deficit; holding strength is still useful evidence.
Use waist and performance together
A shrinking waist with stable lifts is a better sign than daily scale noise. If weight drops quickly while strength, sleep, and energy deteriorate, ease the deficit.
