Distinguish local from whole-body recovery
Sore legs do not always prevent an upper-body session. A split routine can train different muscles on consecutive days, although full-body spacing is simpler for beginners.
Use performance as feedback
If the same warm-up load feels unusually difficult for several sessions, reduce volume or add a rest day. One poor session can be normal variability.
Recover with normal life
Sleep, adequate food, easy walking, and stress management do more than exotic recovery tools. Rest days can include comfortable aerobic activity.
